Post 4: Larry Craig Not Leaving?

Post 4

I was watching the news today and learned that Senator Craig has decided not to resign from the Senate. This whole issue is just getting more and more complicated. The Republican Idaho Senator first said that after everything that has happened, that he would resign and then the state governor decides who will take his place (from my understanding, the governor is the one that chooses a replacement). Now, he is continuing with his case that he thought that if he pleaded guilty that the whole issue would have gone away. He also has made statements that he only pleaded guilty because the charges against him were not read aloud in court. These excuses that he continues to make are ridiculous and it is wrong for him to continue to drag on this issue. Plus, I personally find these kind of statements that make his argument more illegitimate because they just sound so ridiculous. The right thing to do would be to relieve the Republican Party of his embarrassment and simply resign. I also heard on the news that he wishes to go back on the ethics committee that he was a part of in order to reestablish his innocence. By even attempting to continue to serve in the Senate, the man is dragging on this issue. The act that he was committed of and that he pleaded guilty to is disgusting and this would all go away if he just resigns. Again, why should he decide to stay around? Members of Congress on both sides have told him to resign. One reason why he might feel obligated to try and stick around is because there are those who have no problem with him staying around. More recently Craig had tried to appeal his old charges where he pleaded guilty. This plead was denied and Craig has stated that he is very disappointed with the results. No matter what the outcome is (whether he gets his original plea appealed or not) Craig is going to be looked at, very differently and he will not have nearly as much influence as he used to. I personally think an issue like this would be gone if Craig would just resign and let the media focus on topics that are more important.

I agree with you Austin. This issue came up quite awhile ago and apparently, they are still talking about it. We should be focusing on more important issues. Larry Craig should just leave, because he is definitely losing popularity. What is the point of staying? It might be difficult for him to resign, but it is the best thing right now. Craig needs to move on, and so does everyone else. I really do not want to still be hearing about Larry Craig a month from now.

Austin, I happened to blog about this same topic, and I think its safe to say that Larry Craig is KILLING the Republican party by keeping his name in the papers. I think even you can agree that the republicans are trying to restore their image, which has been somewhat tarnished by scandal. They can't repair that image with Larry Craig running around. Like I said in my blog, he needs to resolve the issue with his family and freinds, because the American people have already convicted him - and they wont change their minds.

I think that it's just werid that he keeps changing his mind. He's stepping down, oh wait, no hes not. And then behind his political issues, there are his court ones. However, the incident with Craig happened a while ago, and the news and public should be focusing on more current and important news. Just like others, I also think that by staying in his position, Craig is only putting bad reputation on the Republican name and isn't making things any eaiser for himself.

You bring up many good points. I agree with what you said about Larry Craig. I too agree that he should just resign so that it doesnt make the republicans look any worse than they already look right now.

I cannot agree more. If I could say one thing to Senator Craig, I would tell him to go away. He is an embarrassment to his party and to his job, and he really needs to realize that. Further, the actually particulars of whether he was entrapped or not don't matter. Were any Senator having fully consentual sex in a public bathroom, he would still be guilty of all sorts of minor crimes, in addition to proving that he is a major creep. I think that Craig has proven himself to devoid of morals as well. Listen, say what you will about sex, but in general, totally anonymous and totally random sex is not a responsible behavior. For most people, we would say, "ew. thats messed up". But for one of the most powerful men in the world? Thats bad news.

You know what you get when you have Larry Craig? A bunch of problems. That is all he is. Sen. Craig should never have gone back on his guilty plea. It is obvious that his guilty plea was real and not hurried. Senator Craig at the time was scared and told the police that he did commit a lewd crime. now that he had time to think about the moment, he decided that it would have been better to contest it. Anyway it is highly innapropriate for Craig to go back onto the ethics board. His crime is considered lewd and innapropriate. Whether he is a homosexual is not the issue. Its that he wanted to have sex in a public place.
